RON GALELLA is often called “the king of paparazzi”. Galella has snapped every celebrity of importance since the 1960s, in photographs that are unrehearsed, unposed, and often hilariously candid. VIVA L’ITALIA is a compilation of his photos of both Italian and Italian-American stars, and features shots of Sophia Loren, Federico Fellini, Monica Belluci, Carla Bruni, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Robert de Niro, Francis Ford Coppola, Madonna, Gianni & Donatella Versace, Leonardo Di Caprio, Luciano Pavarotti, and dozens more. Originally published in conjunction with a permanent retrospective exhibit in the city of Basilicata, VIVA L’ITALIA is Galella's tribute to his roots in Italy.
RON GALELLA has been shooting celebrities for over forty years. He is the author of numerous books of photography, including DISCO YEARS, NO PICTURES, OFF-GUARD, and WARHOL BY GALELLA. His photographs are in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Helmut Newton Foundation Gallery in Berlin.
