Drew Carolan was born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City. He has been making photographic works since 1973. His attraction to art started when he discovered graffiti in the early 70's. Writers like Super Kool 223, Stay High 149, Cool Cliff and Dino Nod were super heroes to him. The work of masters like Rene Magritte, Edward Steichen and Lisette Model inspired him to study art and he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1980. Drew served as a photographic assistant to Richard Avedon from 1983 to 1985 and helped him complete the book In The American West. Avedon taught him that the road is endless. Along the way, Drew worked as a photographer for MTV Networks and Interview magazine. He has photographed more than a dozen independent feature films and numerous record and DVD covers. As a director and producer he has created many public service announcements as well as music videos, commercials and documentary films. Drew Carolan currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
